Eating for fuel

There was a point in my life where I hated food and hated that I required it to live. I existed on Lean Cuisine meals and Diet Mt Dew, or on PopTarts and Caffeine Water. It's no wonder I felt like garbage. But that awful habit stuck with me for too long, and it changed the way my body processed food. At 700 calories a day (almost all of them complete crap) I went into starvation mode, storing everything the way a bear stores for hibernation ;). Even now, at a healthy weight with healthy habits, if I cut calories too low my body seems to "remember" the feeling and begins to prepare for the worst. It makes it almost impossible for me to "diet" and harmed my weight loss attempts for many years!

Now I'm working on eating with purpose. I fuel my body with fresh, nutrient-rich foods. I stay away from sodas (thaaaat was a hard transition that finally just took in the past 6 months!). I go off track one way or the other and always find my way back by sticking to the basics. My sugar addiction is fierce, so it's a constant struggle--I'm sure some of you feel me!!

It's good to know your body's limits. It's ok to go against what you've been taught and follow what works for you. Low carb, high protein, high fat, low fat, vegan, paleo, keto, macros, containers... there's no one right way for everyone. What works for you might not work for your friend.

But I'll tell you what is ALWAYS a good idea: real foods, that you prepare yourself, in your own kitchen, and packaged foods with ingredients you can pronounce. Staying away from overly processed foods will ultimately make whatever diet option you choose feel good <3.
